From its foundation till year 2004, Pro Loco Tor San Lorenzo always operated participating, directly or in connection with Public and Private Institutions, in important initiatives in line with its mission. The activity developed in the most recent years is described in the following pages.
Year 2004
Installation of a “Meeting Point” (Tourist Information Point) working every day in the summer months and on Saturday and Sunday in the remaining period; Continuation of the “Small market of craft made and agricultural products”, begun in the previous years, in Piazzale Nuova California, Tor San Lorenzo; Organization of the market - show “Midsummer feast”, lasting three days, with tasting of agro - alimentary and oeno -gastronomic products with music entertainment in the open air;First painting competition “Summer in Ardea”; Issue of the “New territory guide” (4th run), printed in 12.000 copies, in two languages (Italian and English), of high quality, distributed throughout the most important points of the zone;
Participation, in Civitavecchia, in the event “Degustando”( “Tasting”) organized by the Rome Province, with presentation of local wines; From October to December offer of tasting of oeno - gastronomic products of the Rome Province inside the local small market; Updating and improvement of the Internet site;
4th edition of the contest among parishes, associations and schools of the territory "The Nativity in the tradition", sponsored by Comune di Ardea. The project, begun in previous years and to be continued annually, aimed and still aims at a reappraisal of the traditional Crib;
Organization of a Christmas Market with Santa Claus;
Organization of “Finestre sul Natale” "Christmas windows”, a performance of classical music accompanied with the recitation of poetic songs on Christmas, with the participation of internationally renowned musicians such as the violinist Anyla Kraja, the pianist Hiroko Sato and the actress Emilia Marra.
Year 2005
In 2005, the Pro Loco had to interrupt its service of tourist information due to the destruction of the "Meeting Point", by unknown people. The Association continued to offer its services in a temporary office and through the website.AgriBioArdeaMare, project for the development of production and consumption of biological products. The project, lasting several months and completed in the subsequent year, had the purpose, with the assistance of Provincia di Roma and the patronage of Comune di Ardea, of promoting throughout the Roman Province, particularly in the South Coast, the typical food production together with biological farming, education and food safety, consumer protection and sustainable economic development;
5th edition of the Christmas competition with the new title "The Cribs of the folk tradition in the South Coast of Rome";
Christmas Small Market, with Santa Claus and Scouts in celebration;
"Finestre sul Natale” (Christmas Windows), animation for and with the children of Tor San Lorenzo Elementary Schools.
Year 2006
Conclusion of the project "AgriBioArdeaMare" with a major conference which was attended by several hundred citizens from Ardea and neighbouring Municipalities;Promotion and diffusion of all the activities conducted by other Associations of the territory;
Realization of the project "Let’s know our country: Ardea from Rutuli to today" including an itinerant exhibition on the history of Ardea, guided visits to the main local attraction points, a specific and accurate guide - paper for a better knowledge of the territory.
The event received an excellent feedback from visitors and citizens, who were able to discover (or re -discover) the most important places of Ardea including the Fortress, the Manzù Museum, the Landriana Gardens, the new archaeological site at the mouth of the Incastro river and the San Lorenzo Tower;
Participation in the organization of the Saint Lorenzo Feast. Pro Loco Tor San Lorenzo was called to look after three music events (Jazz music, Great Italian and Neapolitan songs, Classical music), an extemporaneous painting show and a charity auction;
6th edition of the Christmas competition "The Cribs of the folk tradition in the South Coast of Rome";
Year 2007
New issue of the Ardea and Tor San Lorenzo guide - paper with illustration of the main sources of tourist attraction and updated information;Organization of Carnevale Ardeatino (Ardeatino Carnival). This event, restored after a long period of absence, consisted of a parade of floats and groups accompanied with music, repeated in three different districts of the Ardea territory. The successful event was attended by numerous people;
Collaboration in the San Lorenzo Feast;
7th edition of the “The Cribs of the folk tradition in the South Coast of Rome"
Year 2008
Restoration of the P.I.T. – Punto di Informazione Turistica (Tourist Information Point) in an office placed alongside the Tor San Lorenzo coast-road. The P.I.T., starting from the month of June, was again able to provide information and guidance to citizens and visitors of our town;Participation, together with other Associations, in the celebration of the Manzù centenary of the birth. The event, organized on the occasion of the Feast of Women, took place at the Ardea Museum and provided, among other things, a visit to the Manzù Collection guided by the director Marcella Cossu in the presence of the Sculptor’s wife and son and a conference on issues concerning the status of women. Political and cultural personalities participated in the event.
Organization, in the summer season, together with other Associations, of a cultural meeting at the California Camping, with poetry, music and dance;
